[October 17th, 1921] "The Blue Boy", the most famous of the paintings of British artist Thomas Gainsborough, was sold at auction to an American art dealer, Joseph Duveen, by the Duke of Westminster. Duveen bid £170,000, equivalent to $12,030,000 in 2021.
